Important Documents
Local Moving (within Massachusetts)
A tariff is the list of rates and services a moving company submits to the MDTE (our regulatory body) in Massachusetts. All charges are based off this document, and is also a legally binding addition to the moving contract (bill of lading). Before hiring a moving company, always read their Tariff to make sure you understand how the charges will be assessed.
This is the document we will have you sign and date on the day of the move. You'll also be required to elect a level of liability. To understand what this means, and how it works we'd like you to read a document prepared by the Mass Movers Association, or local trade organization.
This is the legal document which shows what coverage we have. Also, some building management companies need a copy of this. Check with your super intendant to see if one is needed. We might have to have special wording added to our COI to satisfy your building's needs.
Interstate Moving
Interstate moving is governed by a different body of laws and regulatory body than local moving, and therefore requires a different tariff. This tariff is also a legally bindng adition to our movng contract which you will sign before we are able to move you across state lines. In order to understand this tariff and any paperwork that goes with it, you'll first need to understand the basics of how the interstate moving industry is regulated. I would recommend browsing a couple sites. First, check out ProtectYourMove.gov, it is a site put together by the federal government for consumers. Additionally, we belong to AMSA which is our national trade organization, they also have important information available to moving customers that you would do well to read. Finally, browse MovingScam.com for a more practical & hands-on discussion by other moving customers out there about the pitfalls and issues surrounding moving, contracts, and tariffs.
